Dirty Air Ducts And Air Duct Leaks

As we enter the warmer months each year, it’s important to make sure your air conditioner is running at optimal efficiency. At G&R Heating and Air, we can thoroughly inspect your AC unit for problems and repair anything that has gone awry. However, it’s possible that even after a thorough inspection and performing any necessary repairs, that you might still experience problems with proper cooling.

It could possibly be related to a hidden culprit: your ductwork. If that’s the case, certain parts of your home might not be receiving enough cool air during those hot summer days.

Air Duct Leaks

Our HVAC technician will thoroughly evaluate your current duct system and recommend any necessary or beneficial repairs. The state and configuration of your ductwork will depend on when your house was built, and when the last time was you had your ducts inspected or cleaned. We’ll test for air pressure inside your ducts, which will uncover any compromised spots or sections that are leaking. Lost air through air duct leaks is often the main issue behind duct efficiency, and the reason why certain rooms in your house stay warmer than others.

Dirty Air Ducts

Another potential issue with your ductwork that could relate to cooling problems are dirty air ducts. Over time, your ducts will become dirty with particulates, dust, pet hair, and other nasty stuff. This is why we recommend a thorough and professional home air duct cleaning every year, or at least every 2-3 years.

If it’s been a long time since your home air ducts were professionally cleaned — or if they have never been cleaned — it’s possible that there is enough accumulated debris that it is causing a blockage. Or, at minimum, the debris is preventing the airflow through the air ducts from reaching maximum efficiency and pressure.
