You may like it warmer, while your spouse or partner would rather have it a little cooler. The kids may constantly change the thermostat after coming in from outside, but what is the best setting for your thermostat during the summer? When You’re Home
Summer is a busy time for most families, and you might be coming and going all season long. However, when you are home, you want the house to be comfortable. You might have people coming to stay with you, and you don’t want any guest to be too hot or too cold. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends a setting of 78 degrees Fahrenheit when you’re home. This is the ideal setting to keep your home cool, without making the air conditioner run too often. Although, if your AC is starting to struggle, even 78 degrees could be a challenge. When there’s an issue, it’s good to call a certified HVAC provider as soon as possible.
When You’re Gone
If you’re going to be on vacation with the family for a few weeks this summer, or you live alone and you’ll be traveling for business a few days each week, then you’ll want to make sure your thermostat is set on its “away” mode. This means the central AC unit will run less often, but you might still be wondering what temperature to set. Depending on how much direct sunlight your home gets in the summer, and how efficient your AC is, you can set your thermostat between 85 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit. This means that your air conditioning will turn on once the interior temperature reaches the setting on the thermostat. If your home is shaded by large trees, or the outside temperature doesn’t get too hot, then your AC might not run at all. It is important, however, to make sure your home is cool enough for any pets that you own, since you don’t want Fido to get too hot.
Programmable And Learning Thermostats
Your home likely already has a programmable thermostat that you can set to certain modes for when you’re home and when you’re away.
